That is Her Cup Overflows.
Ok so yall I did a thing a little over a week ago that I've been wanting to do as an adult for a very long time. It just so happen to be during my recent fast. If you heard the last Her Cup Overflows episode, I had an impromptu but very timely conversation about fasting as I was getting ready to fast unexpectedly for 7 days… I say unexpectedly because my spirit spoke to me out of the blue about needing to fast and I was obedient. Before I tell you what this thing is, I have to say as I always say God is so relentlessly intentional… yall I rain danced! For some reason for about the past month, rain dancing was heavy on my mind. Even though I've always wanted to do it, I really hadn't thought about it much in a long time.
It was probably about 5 years ago when I was 1st inspired by my neighbors' kids to rain dance. It was a couple, a really sweet husband, his wife who had a weird demeanor and they had 3 daughters… look like they were stairstep kids maybe between ages 6-10. One day, it was raining really bad outside. Like the ol folks say, it was raining cats and dogs. So no one was or should have been outside cause you know in a black family, you get somewhere, sit dine and be quiet. Well I was working and my office was located next to their garage and I kept hearing like children laughing and screaming playfully. My children who were older, of course were supposed to be in the house so I get up and look out the window. And it was my neighbors kids in the driveway in their bathing suits playing in the rain. I was so inspired. I remember just the feeling I had from watching them be so carefree, so in control but out of control at the same time, and while they were so excited and happy, I felt a sense of peace from afar. On that day, I said to myself I want to feel that too so I'm going to play in the rain one day. Years past, the thought comes and goes but I never do.
Well for some reason, over like the past month or so, I started to think about it more. It was on my mind heavily. And during this past month, there was one Saturday when the weatherman forecasted rain in my area and I told my babe I was going to go play in the rain when it started. And with this thought, my Capricorn showed up and I had planned it to a T. I knew what I was going to wear, how I was going to cover my hair, which shoes I was going to wear, like the whole thing was predictable for me. But it never rained so I never got a chance to do it.
Fast forward, 4 days into my fast on a day where it was not forecasted to rain, it did. So, of course I absolutely had no plans of going outside to play in the rain. I was actually working on a conference call with no clue what's going on outside. And my babe came to the our office door and like mouthed that it was raining outside. And at 1st I just was like oh ok but then had a quick thought that he was telling me because he knew I had planned to rain dance some weeks back. So I'm still on my call but I'm having to think quickly am I just going to do it or nah. The good thing is I was talking to my fabulous Director who I shared my inspiration of playing in the rain with her some weeks prior. So when I made up my mind to just do it, I told her and we ended the call. And I went outside as is, no shoes, no socks, the clothes I already had on, glasses still on and didn't think twice about my hair.
Yall when I got outside, it was raining kinda heavy and unexpectedly, I went through a weird but realistic, range of emotions. I remember at 1st feeling excited but that quickly changed when my fight or flight activated in my brain cause my brain and body were like hold on ni, we don't do this… RUN! And I actually started to internally panic a lil bit which was the weird thing because even though I chose to do it, it slightly felt like I didn't have any control over what was happening. So I had to ground myself by just reminding myself to breathe. Once that moment passed over, I felt something I haven't felt in a very long time. The lil girl in me, lil Q, lil Qwanze, lil Mama Do as my dad would call me was having the time of her life. I felt exactly what I understood the day I watched my neighbors lil girls play in the rain. And it was beyond amazing. Despite the wild rain and heavy winds, I was so at peace and my spirit was carefree. In hindsight, I did more walking back and forth across our back lawn and standing still in prayer than I did dancing and it was everything. It's like the rain washed the chaos from within my mind, body, and spirit. And I was pulling all the Earth's energy back into me to refill my cup (pun intended) to regain my balance, my focus, and ground myself. And yall I guess I needed that cleansing so bad, it started to hail, that's what made me come in the house. Funny thing, I couldn't explain my experience in the details when I came into the house that I just shared with you. It took me some days to process what I felt. But I knew what I felt was real when my babe told me a couple days later that I looked happy out there.
This is where I say God is so relentlessly intentional because I can only imagine that my experience probably wouldn't have been the same if it would've happened the Saturday where I had everything planned out. When I released control, I was able to fully show up as myself and experience God's greatness in the most genuine and purest way. So that is what inspired this week's conversation about soul cleansing.

Some years ago after I started my healing journey, I remember hearing about soul cleansing before I started to research it and ain gone lie, I was a lil skeptic cause I mean, seriously how can you cleanse your soul? But after much research, I learned how beneficial soul cleansing can be especially if you are on a healing journey or trying to manifest something. A soul cleanse, also known as a spiritual cleanse, is a holistic practice aimed at removing negative energies, emotional blockages, and spiritual impurities to promote overall well-being and renewal. For my good churchy folks who like to side eye us deep spiritual, God fearing folks with rituals, this is much like being baptized… I'm just saying.
Anyway, often we collect negative energy from various sources such as stressful work environments, toxic relationships, or just negative interactions with other people. And it's a domino effect from there as this negative energy turns into emotional imbalances, then those unresolved emotions turn into mental blockages impacting your productivity, creativity, stability, and so on.
So, if you are ever feeling really energy heavy, experiencing mental fog or fatigue, or maybe you feel like someone is sending evil eye energy your way aka someone praying on your downfall or wishing bad on you, you should definitely consider spiritual bathing. It involves various techniques and rituals designed to purify and rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit. So I'm going to share with you my soul cleansing ritual. I'm more of a full moon/ new moon ritual type chick to keep a consistent schedule of cleansing but I certainly have random unplanned moments where I do it too.
So one of my main rituals for soul cleansing is a Spiritual Bath. A Spiritual Bath is an ancient tradition used by our ancestors in many cultures that involves bathing in water with various elements such as herbs, salts, oils, and other natural ingredients. You should only use natural ingredients. Each component of the spiritual bath has a specific purpose to aid in the overall mission of the bath to cleanse and purify the mind, body, and spirit while enhancing the spiritual connection. Depending on when you are using the spiritual bath or your intention, it should be curated to either remove something from you or instill something you. I'll talk more about this as I get into the components.
The first and main component is water as the base of the spiritual bath. It is the natural purifier and conductor of energy. It represents cleansing, renewal, and life. If you've ever had a Reiki session, you've most likely experienced your practitioner telling you to drink plenty of water after your session as it is the ebb to your flow of energy so it's super important.
Another base component is typically a natural salt like pink Himalayan or sea salt, commonly used for their detoxifying and purifying properties. They help to cleanse the aura and draw out negative energy. I don't know how far from the country you have to be but remember when ol folks (and some of yall new woke folks) put salt around the windows and doors to keep out unwanted energy. Well same concept in a spiritual bath, but it's for the body.
Then the last, more common base component is herbs and flowers. Have you ever experienced getting a fresh bouquet of flowers and it just changed your mood? And other than being aesthetically pleasing, you have no idea why your mood improved. Well herbs and flowers give off certain essences that play on the body's senses such as lavender calms, roses stimulate compassion, and damiana enhances sensuality. So when adding these components to a spiritual bath, you only want to add ones that contribute to your intention of the bath. And honestly, a simple google these days can tell you which herb or flower does what from a spiritual perspective.
So water, salt, and some type of herbs and or flowers are essential for my spiritual baths. However, there are other things you can add such as dried fruit, essential oils, and crystals. For myself, I typically stay away from essential oils cause my good sis down there will give me feedback quick so I don't even play in her face. But I absolutely do add a few drops of Florida Water and she's ok with that. Florida Water has been used in spiritual rituals for years due to its unique properties and versatility. The main reason for me is protection. When taking a spiritual bath, you have to be very mindful of how you are energetically opening yourself. So Florida Water helps to create that protective barrier in esoteric fields against negative influences, psychic attacks, and unwanted spiritual entities.
Other things I use while spiritual bathing ritual but not in it: crystals and candles. Like herbs and flowers, crystals have certain metaphysical properties to aid in the intention of the spiritual bath. For instance, if you are working on your health, you may want to place a Red Jasper around the tub as it stimulates revitalization in recovering from an illness or supporting fertility. If you are focused on bringing in money, you may want to have a Green Aventurine in the space as it enhances prosperity.
In a similar concept, I have certain candles lit in the space of my spiritual bath because candle colors represent different things in spirituality. Candles symbolize light in the darkness, representing hope, guidance, and the presence of the divine. Particularly, white candles are always recommended because those represent spirituality. If you are experiencing really heavy negative energy, you would want to have a black candle to banish negative energy. Or gold for wealth, luck, and power. So I typically have a mixture of candles, always at least 1 white and whatever the color or colors I feel is needed that speaks to my intention. "In through the flame out through the fire, into the Universe my true heart's desires."
Now there are very important steps required before spiritual bathing. The first one is cleaning your space. Clean your space physically and spiritually. It is an essential step that prepares the physical environment enhances the effectiveness of the ritual and helps to create a serene and sacred environment. You know the same sense of peace you get just when your house is clean. This is the same feeling you want for your spiritual bath. Cleaning removes any residual negative energy that may have accumulated and aligns the physical environment with the spiritual intention of purification and renewal. Then spiritually clean your space with sage, palo santo or some other energy cleansing resource to remove unseen negative energy. Then you want to take a shower to physically cleanse your body, because during a spiritual bath you do not bathe, you soak. So you want to clean as you normally do. Before you enter your spiritual bath, basically think about everything needs to be clean and sacred within the space.
Run your bath water so this is where I talked about depends on what your intention is, how your bath water should be. So if you're working to release something that is no longer serving, you run the water hot, as hot as you can stand it. If you're working to instill or renew something within, you use cool water, the easiest way to remember. This is actually very similar to proper skincare maintenance. If you cleanse your face to remove dirt, toxins, et cetera, you want to use hot water to open the pores right, because you want to release that stuff from your skin. If you are moisturizing, you want to use cool water right before applying it, or a cool toner to tighten in the pores to allow the moisturizer to be absorbed into the skin.
And this is also where the moon cycle comes into play for me, because with my spiritual bathing routine, full moon energy is about closure, it's about letting go, the end of a cycle, while new moon energy represents renewals and new cycles. So, full moon, releasing hot water, I want to let something go. New moon instilling renewing new cycle. I want to bring something in. And then things like crystals or if there's any of the components that you're considering having as a part of your spiritual bath experience, place all those other things wherever you please in the space that are actually not part of the bath, like your crystals and candles. Light your candles and say your intention of prayers for the spiritual bath. Think about what you want to achieve with the bath, speak it out loud and visualize it, and then enter the bath While soaking, take deep breaths and continue to visualize your intention.
For example, if your intention is to release a toxic relationship, imagine what your life would be like today without it, all the way down to like the finest details. What would you do daily with the extra time you'd have from not engaging in that toxic situation? What emotions do you think you would feel? What? How would you want to feel? How would you want to act? And then you'll meditate, pray and self-reflect on those things.
There is no set amount of time to take a spiritual bath. Take as much or as little time as you see fit, as long as you are able to complete the actual spiritual bath, as long as your soul feels settled. Very important last step Once you exit the bath, air dry. Do not dry off with a towel or anything. It helps to maximize the benefits of the cleansing ritual by ensuring full absorption of energies, respecting the process and allowing for a meditative experience.
Now one more step I would share that is optional but very beneficial for my good sis out there, and that's yoni, steaming before my spiritual bath. So hear me out. The yoni is where we birth things. Anything that is physically born comes from a womb, which is why we are classified as woman. Well, it is the same for all your hopes, dreams and desires. They need a place of creativity to be birthed, and your feminine creativity is connected to your sacral chakra as well as your full range of emotions. See how all that goes together. So not only is Yoni's theme very beneficial for women's physical health, it is also beneficial to clearing out negative emotions and creativity blockages. Your intentions are essentially your hopes, dreams and desires in life. So having a clean and balanced place to birth your intention is key to manifesting. Manifesting requires creativity. Physically and spiritually. Clean your womb, sis, is what I'm saying now listen.
Number one question that I get asked often when I'm talking about spiritual cleansing is what happens if I don't have a tub? All right, if you don't have a tub, it's OK. You can still take a spiritual bath, but more so like a shower or a foot bath. Right, so you can actually do it in the shower, or you? You just need to prepare all of the components of your spiritual bath, like the water, herbs, flowers, etc. In a jug or pitcher that you're able to use and pour over your body in the shower and then complete the rest of the steps in the same manner as you would with an actual spiritual bath. Same with the foot tub. Difference for me is when I do the foot tubs. I pour my salt and herbal mixture into the foot tub instead of using a teabag, because I'm going to throw it out the door anyway, so it's not I don't have to worry about. You know that much cleanup.
So, aside from my soul cleansing rituals I just share, there are others that may be more appealing or convenient for you, like crystal work, reiki, sound healing, chanting, mantras and so on. Again, google can tell you everything that you need to know. Just find you a reliable site, because spirituality has become the trend these days and people are being very reckless. Either way, sis, get it in, however you can. Okay, which brings me to this episode self-discovery prompt.
So I want you to explore soul cleansing, whether that is as simple as rain dancing or doing a spiritual bath and listen, shameless plug here. If you're interested in doing a spiritual bath, I have everything you need on the Spiritual Tea Company website, from the spiritual bath soak itself to the candles and the sage bundles or spray, if that's your thing. I also have Yoni steams as well. I'm going to tell you now. Those things sell out. So listen, if you're going to get it, you better get it while the getting is good, but you can definitely create your own mixture, incorporating the things that call to your spirit.
But I want you to explore this to unlock new levels of healing in your journey. I promise you will be amazed at just the feelings alone. The results may happen immediately or it may take some time, but be patient because it will happen. I've actually experienced both ends of the spectrum, where it took some time to happen and then it happened immediately. I will share two personal testimonies where I experienced both, where it took some time for me to see the results, my intentions that set, and then it happened immediately. So the very first time I did a spiritual bath, I really didn't remind you, I was kind of a skeptic, right, so I'm still. You know, I read about it and I'm like, okay, I'm doing it. And then I do it and I get out the tub and I remember like feeling really clean, almost like squeaky clean, like dishes, but that was it, and it was about a week later.
I started to feel like really heavy energy wise. I started to feel like sad and angry all at the same time and just mad and really couldn't pinpoint like what exactly it was, and I'm not a crier, so usually in those situations. What makes it even tougher for me is because I have a hard time letting it out, so I just usually sit with it used to anyway, and this was one of those times. And so one day I just couldn't hold it anymore. Like that weight became so heavy for me. I just broke down crying at home and I can't even tell you why. There was nothing happening. It probably it could have been a dog on cat commercial, I don't know, but something triggered it and it's like the floodgates open and I just had myself a good old little soul shower. When I tell y'all, when I stopped crying, when the tears stopped, so did that weight. All of that energy that I was feeling was like poof gone, thin air, like it never existed. All I know is I felt lighter and then, as the day started to move forward, things just started making sense towards the intention that I said, because things were aligning.
I was doing the necessary work that I needed to continue my healing, not ask for something and then not be willing to do the work, and it just got better and better and better. That was the first time where it took some time. I actually had an experience where the results happened less than 24 hours, and I'm not even kidding. This was actually the first time where I experienced yoni steaming from a spiritual perspective. Prior to, I had already been yoni steaming for a minute, but this was one time I decided to do yoni steaming as a part of my spiritual bathing ritual and while I was yoni steaming, I did it right before I got into the tub. So I basically took a shower, bathed like I normally do, and then I sat and yoni steamed and then I got into my spiritual bath. So during my yoni steaming I did the same thing I would do in the in the bath. As far as, like you know, preying on my intentions, visualizing it, feeling it, saying it out loud all of those same things within 24 hours, it less. It probably wasn't even 12 hours.
To be quite honest, I had a message from my ex and now let me tell you I usually don't reveal a lot of my intentions, but I can share a part. A part of it was this guy and I had no involvement with each other, but I just needed to get rid of his energy that was still within me. So if you guys are familiar with soul ties, we can talk about that if you want to in the future. But I needed to break that soul tie to in the future. But I needed to break that soul time. I wanted to get rid of the energy that I was harboring from that relationship, and so that was part of the intention.
Less than 24 hours the next morning, I woke up and I had a Facebook message from him in my inbox. And it was funny because he said you must didn't get my text messages. And I laughed because I'm like nope, cause, sir, you are blocked, bliggity, blocked from my phone. But he said well, I just want to share with you. For some reason last night I couldn't sleep. All I can do is think about you and I want to apologize for doing X, y, z. You are such a great person and at the time I just wasn't ready to commit to someone like you and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, like I would literally share that text message. But I'm never in the business of, you know, embarrassing anybody, anything like that. But it was so extreme that I was like this can't be happening. I had to message my sister and show her like do you see what I see? And then let me tell you what I did last night and how it worked, and so that's when I learned.
At that point I started to focus more on Yoni's theme from a spiritual perspective and how it can be truly beneficial when you are manifesting anything. So, of course, if you're taking a spiritual bath and you're setting an intention, that means you are trying to manifest something. So share those things with you, because I don't want you to think that it will never happen If you take a spiritual bath, that the results will never happen. It will Stay the course. Be patient, because it will happen Immediately, or it may take some time, but it will happen. But whatever you do, at least try some form of soul cleansing. It may be beneficial to try different techniques to see which works for you best and pretty much incorporate most into my ongoing healing journey. With the newest ad of rain, dancing or, in my version, standing in the rain is now a new one added to the list that I plan to do more often, because that was definitely freeing to my soul.
So let's get into the last thing for this episode, which is our Reiki channel collective message. Like all things, if it resonates, let it apply. If it doesn't, let it fly. But don't let it fly too far, as these messages are also evergreen, just like our conversations, and may have future resonance with you. Because, best, believe, as much as you love me, or love hearing my voice, you are not here by happenstance in this moment in time.
The message for this week is, babe, you are choosing the safe option to stay in this relationship. I don't know if it's because of status convenience, whatever it is, but you are playing it too safe and there's a disconnect in this relationship because of trust issues. Now, there's a lot of sex. Sex is everything, but it's the only thing you two are aligned on, and a part of this trust issue is because someone is not being accountable for their actions. Being accountable for their actions. Somebody is trying to avoid karma by not being accountable, but I hate to tell you, karma is like air, it's everywhere. You gone get it, whether you want it or not. Until you or your person start to take accountability for their actions, you will remain unhappy and that's not okay. If it isn't wholehearted love, then you got to release it. Remember your worth. That's it. That's all you have to let go.
All right, beautiful souls, I thank you for sharing space with me. I'm so excited for you as you continue your healing journey and I definitely want to hear from you because we have this really cool feature now on my Buzzsprout site where you can text me If you click the blue link that mentions send me a text right above the description when you access any of the episodes, old and new, and, don't worry, it sends it from an anonymous number, just in case you don't want to share who you are. But holla at your girl "hey girl heyyyyy", say something and definitely tell me about your soul cleansing experience. That is it for this episode. Until next time, keep taking up space and refill yourself, because you can't pour shit from an empty cup, take care.
